Key Principles and Criteria of Medical Ethics in the Mutual Interaction Between Patient and Medical Staff from the Perspective of the Quran: A Scoping Review of Review Studies

Background: This article explores the principles of Islamic medical ethics, which are deeply rooted in religious sources, particularly the Quran, and emphasize ethical conduct within the medical profession.
Material and Methods: Employing a domain review methodology, the authors systematically searched major databases PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Persian SID-using relevant keywords, without time restrictions up to the end of 2024. The inclusion criteria focused on review studies that examined the reciprocal ethical responsibilities between patients and medical staff from the Quranic perspective, as well as those directly addressing the foundational principles of Islamic medical ethics. The quality of the selected studies was assessed using the AMSTAR checklist.
Results: A total of ten articles met the inclusion criteria. Key Islamic medical ethics principles highlighted include medical confidentiality, which mandates the protection of patient information and prohibits disclosure without patient consent. The intention behind medical actions is also emphasized; practitioners acting in good faith, even if outcomes are adverse, are not considered liable due to their benevolent intent. The importance of informing patients about their condition and treatment is underscored, with withholding such information viewed as a breach of duty. The value of physicians’ efforts to alleviate patient suffering is recognized. Regarding abortion, Islam considers it a form of "self-murder." Organ transplantation and donation are permitted if they aim to save or improve lives, provided they are conducted knowingly and in accordance with religious principles.
Conclusion: The study concludes that a thorough understanding of Islamic ethical principles and Quranic guidance can significantly enhance medical ethics and improve healthcare quality in Islamic societies and potentially beyond.

A Comparative Study of Verses 5–7 of Surah Al-Tariq and Medical Findings Based on the Linguistic Analysis of Key Terms in These Verses

Verses 5 to 7 of Surah Al-Tariq have been interpreted by some translators and exegetes in a way that has led certain critics to claim a contradiction between these Quranic statements and medical findings. These critics argue that the Quran’s description of the ejaculated fluid emerging from between the "sulb" and "taraeib" of the human body is inconsistent with knowledge in anatomy, embryology, and physiology of the human reproductive system.
This article presents medical findings regarding the anatomy and physiology of the male reproductive system and then analyzes the three key Quranic terms "mae dafiq", "sulb" and "taraib" from a linguistic perspective. By comparing the linguistic meanings of these terms with medical knowledge, the study rejects the alleged contradiction between the Quran and medical science concerning the human reproductive system. The study concludes that such misconceptions arise from misidentifying the proper referents of the Quranic terms in these verses.

A Comparative Study of Therapeutic Strategies for "Soqm" in Verses 89 and 145 of Surah As-Saffat with Contemporary Psychological Theories

Objective: This research analyzes the therapeutic strategies for "Soqm"(affliction) in two Quranic narratives: first, the story of Prophet Ibrahim(AS), who refused to participate in idolatrous ceremonies by declaring "Indeed, I am ill(Soqīm)"; and second, the story of Prophet Yunus(AS), who was delivered from the whale’s belly while in a state of"Saqīm". The study aims to extract therapeutic models for"Saqm" at individual and social levels and conduct a comparative analysis with psychological theories.Method: Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this study draws on exegetical sources and psychological theories to elucidate the dimensions of therapeutic strategies.Findings: The results reveal that the Quran presents two complementary therapeutic strategies: Guidance-oriented therapeutic strategies for "Saqm," including Ibrahim’s (AS) corrective action and Psychologically-oriented therapeutic strategies aligned with Garmezy and Masten’s "self-awareness" theory. The psychotherapy model incorporates Festinger’s "cognitive dissonance," Hemphill’s"attitude change," Bandura’ "observational learning," and Beck’s "cognitive restructuring." Additionally, the gradual recovery phase aligns with Prochaska’s "stages of change" and Touraine’s"social movements".Conclusion: The integration of guidance-oriented and psychologically-oriented therapeutic strategies for "Saqm" addresses both personal growth and social transformation, offering a comprehensive framework for designing therapeutic interventions at individual and societal levels. This study demonstrates that Quranic teachings can serve as a valuable resource for developing therapeutic theories and methods in contemporary psychology.

Analyzing the Impact of Quranic Teachings on Social Mental Health: A Descriptive-Analytical Study

Psychological well-being is the fundamental cornerstone of a healthy life and a society free from stress and anxiety. Despite significant technological and medical advancements, modern societies—even the most developed nations—often fail to secure lasting mental peace for their citizens. This research, employing a descriptive-analytical approach, investigates the influence of Quranic teachings on the mental health of society and explores how divine instructions can foster psychological balance. Data were collected through a documentary and library-based method, analyzing authentic Islamic texts, including the Holy Quran and Hadiths, alongside contemporary psychological literature. The findings indicate that adhering to Quranic principles provides effective cognitive and behavioral strategies for maintaining psychological stability. Spiritual faith, trust in God (Tawakkul), and ethical social conduct serve as significant protective factors against modern psychological disorders. Integrating these authentic religious teachings into mental health frameworks can promote a more harmonious and resilient society. Achieving true mental equilibrium is deeply rooted in following the comprehensive guidance provided by the Holy Quran.

The Materialistic Approach of the Occult and Spiritual Concepts of the Quran and the Consequences of Social Health

Background and purpose: The growth of empiricism provided the basis for a materialistic approach in various fields. One of these fields was the materialistic approach to the occult and spiritual concepts. Given the influence of the materialistic approach, modern thinkers, relying on positivism, began to examine the occult and spiritual concepts of the Quran. At first, they denied those concepts and in later stages, they adapted the spiritual and occult concepts to material matters. Considering the impact of religious beliefs on human happiness, the aim of the research is to clarify the social health consequences of the materialistic approach to the occult and spiritual concepts of the Quran?
Materials and methods: The present research is based on content analysis by collecting information in a library manner and using Magiran, SID and PubMed databases and Google Scholar search engine with keywords "social health", "positivism", "materialistic approach". "Empirical science", and "occult and spiritual concepts" were searched; A total of 26 sources related to the purpose of the study were identified and used.
Conclusion: Based on the findings and results of the research, the materialistic approach to occult and spiritual concepts has led to the emergence of social phenomena such as the growth of humanism, nationalism, the spiritual distortion of the occult concepts of the Qur'an, the rejection of the occult, and the removal of spirituality, thereby challenging the social health of society. is Therefore, the recognition of other sciences such as philosophy, revelation and mysticism, the optimal use of philosophical arguments and the systematic interpretation of the Quran, and the use of each science in its own domain are ways to prevent a material approach to the occult and spiritual concepts of the Quran.

Vegetarianism from the Perspective of Nutritional Science, the Holy Qur’an, and Islamic Traditions‌

In recent years, vegetarian diets have gained widespread popularity as modern nutritional approaches, motivated by ethical, environmental, and health-related concerns. This interdisciplinary study provides a comparative analysis of vegetarianism from the perspectives of nutritional science and Islamic teachings. Scientifically, short-term vegetarian diets have demonstrated benefits such as weight loss, improved blood pressure, and reduced LDL cholesterol. However, long-term adherence may result in serious nutritional deficiencies, including vitamin B12, iron, and omega-3, while a balanced omnivorous diet—when guided by nutritional principles—can achieve similar outcomes with greater micronutrient stability. From an Islamic perspective, nutrition is not merely a biological necessity but also a moral and spiritual practice. The Qur’an presents humans as omnivorous beings and permits meat consumption, provided moderation and avoidance of excess are observed. Prophetic traditions (hadith) emphasize that complete abstinence from meat is not acceptable and, in fact, discouraged, while excessive consumption is equally condemned. Thus, Islamic dietary principles advocate a balanced approach based on moderation, diversity, and ethical restraint. This study concludes that vegetarianism may serve as a temporary therapeutic option under specific health conditions, but permanent avoidance of meat is inconsistent with Islamic teachings. The Islamic model of nutrition, rooted in the Qur’an and prophetic traditions, offers a culturally grounded, ethical, and health-conscious framework for long-term dietary practice.

Knowledge of medicine in the Qur’an. A sensual experience with divine inspiration

The present study aims to reexamine the epistemological foundations of medical science from the perspective of the Holy Qur’an by investigating the relationship between sensory empiricism and divine inspiration in the process of medical knowledge acquisition. In the contemporary world, medicine is largely grounded in empiricism and sensory observation, deriving its epistemic validity from experimental data. In contrast, the Qur’an, by presenting a monotheistic view of the world and the human being, does not confine the sources of knowledge to the external senses alone, but also recognizes higher faculties of cognition—such as reason, the heart, and divine inspiration—as effective in the discovery of truth. Accordingly, medical knowledge in the Qur’anic worldview is not merely an empirical form of knowledge, but a multi-layered process that gains meaning through its connection with divine guidance and monotheistic knowledge.
This research adopts a descriptive–analytical method and employs conceptual analysis of Qur’anic verses related to knowledge, healing, and inspiration (such as Q. 16:68; 26:80; 96:4–5; and 8:29). The findings indicate that within the Qur’anic epistemic framework, sensory perception functions as the initial instrument of knowledge, while the ultimate validity of knowledge depends on divine guidance and correction. The originality of this article lies in proposing a “three-level model of Qur’anic medical epistemology,” consisting of: (1) sensory experience and natural observation, (2) rational reflection and conceptual analysis, and (3) divine inspiration and illumination. This model can provide a theoretical foundation for the development of “religious medicine” and for redefining the role of the human being in the healing process through the integration of reason and revelation.

The Theory of the Eternal Dimension of Health in the Quran:An Analytical Approach Based on the Theorization of Martyr Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr

Health has been one of the important and constant categories of mankind since the beginning of creation until now. For atheists and those who ignore God and the hereafter, the health of the world is from birth to death; But for those who believe in God and the hereafter, the range of health is not limited to this world. The believers, the religious community and the Islamic system manage things in a way that is more similar to the first group. This situation is not compatible with the teachings of the Quran. The Qur'an-based theory of the eternal extent of health and health proves the ontological knowledge of this extent based on the Qur'an and the value-based knowledge in harmony with the theory. The purpose of formulating the theory is to explain the inadequacy of health targeting in the global scope and also to explain the necessity of targeting, planning and managing health in the eternal scope; In such a way that it is necessary to coordinate all the actions and existences of individuals, human society and the systems governing human societies in order to ensure health in its eternal extent. The main question of the article is: Is the range of health from birth to death or beyond that and is it eternal? The hypothesis of the research is as follows: "Extreme health is eternal and inclusive". What we mean by comprehensive existence is that it includes the world of the world - the kingdom - and the hereafter - the kingdom. This hypothesis is investigated by the method of induction in the data of the Quran and the analysis of the data of the Quran. Data analysis is done by the method of semantic research and ijtihad in verbal reasoning. Among the results of the research is the explanation of the theory of the Quran based on the eternal scope of health, that is, from birth to resurrection. The consequence of the justified explanation of the theory is the need for all individuals, groups, especially the Islamic system, to pay attention to the eternal extent of health at all levels of governance and the redesign of the health system in the eternal extent of health.
