Purpose:The aim of this study was to present a structural model of marital commitment based on sexual function mediated by intimacy and interpersonal cognitive distortions.
Materials and Methods: The research method is applied in terms of purpose, quantitative in terms of approach, cross-sectional in terms of data collection time and correlational in terms of research method. The statistical population of this study consisted of all married women who referred to Sarai Mahallat in Tehran in 2020, from which 300 people were selected by multi-stage cluster random sampling. In this study, the tools of marital commitment (Adams and Jones, 1997), sexual function (Rosen et al., 2000), marital intimacy (Brooke and Oman, 1998) and interpersonal cognitive distortions (Hammaci and Ozturk, 2004) were used. All had acceptable credibility and reliability. SPSS-V23 and Amos-V8.8 software were used to analyze the data. Structural equation modeling was also used to answer the research hypotheses. Findings: Findings showed that the model has a good fit. The results also showed that the variable of sexual function has an indirect and significant effect on the variable of marital commitment (p <0.05). Intimacy directly affects marital commitment (p <0.05). Interpersonal cognitive distortions also directly affect marital commitment (p <0.05).
Conclusion The results can be used to determine treatment priorities for couples as well as educational and treatment programs aimed at helping to strengthen the marital bond.
