Abstract
Aims: Anxiety and blood pressure are among the most common disorders and diseases that have affected many people in the community. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of practicing Quranic teachings on the anxiety and blood pressure of patients with primary blood pressure.
Methods: This study was a clinical trial. The sample size of the study consisted of 34 women with primary blood pressure who were selected by convenience sampling from patients referring to Shahrekord health centers in the southwest of Iran through a clinical interview and an internal diagnosis. They were classified randomly into two experimental and control groups and then completed Beck and colleagues’ anxiety inventory questionnaire in both pre and post-test. Meanwhile, the blood pressure of patients was also measured by a mercury device. All patients were under ordinary medical care and in addition, the experimental group received six sessions of practice in the teachings of the Quran.
Findings: The results of the multivariate covariance analysis showed that the practice of Quranic teachings was effective on reducing anxiety (P = 0.001), but it did not have a significant effect on systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P˃0.01).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that practicing Quranic teachings can be effective in reducing the anxiety of women with primary blood pressure.
