Abstract
Introduction: Arbaeen is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Despite the benefits such as cultural exchange and expansion of communication, these gatherings and crowds bring challenges such as hygiene, proper nutrition and preventing the transmission of infectious diseases. Improving nutrition and following the correct diet pattern is effective in strengthening the immune system and preventing various diseases. Therefore, the present review study was conducted with the aim of determining nutritional and health challenges and investigating the level of pilgrims' awareness of hygiene and healthy nutrition in Arbaeen and gatherings.
Method: Articles were searched in SID, ISC, Magiran and Google Scholar databases using relevent keywords.
Results: Nutrition, by affecting the immune system, plays an important role in preventing the occurrence of infectious diseases. Also, in these type of gatherings, issues such as dehydration, food poisoning, overeating and exacerbation of non-communicable diseases occur in people. proper nutrition and compliance with health principles are crucial in addressing these challenges.
Conclusion: The general public's lack of awareness regarding hygiene and access to proper food, as well as the absence of various inspection stations to monitor the health of pilgrims in such crowded events, can contribute to the spread of diseases. The management of mass gatherings requires planning, preparation and coordination among organizations. Measures should be taken to ensure the provision, production, distribution, and evaluation of healthy food before hosting these types of gatherings.
