Abstract
Purpose: Religious teachings and Islamic ethics can play an important role in reducing the psychological problems of school principals. The present research was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of religious teachings and Islamic ethics on the spiritual health and mental health of school principals.
Materials and methods: This research was conducted in a semi-experimental way with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the research included all the principals of schools in Kerman city in 1402, 30 of them were selected to enter the research using the available sampling method and were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (15 people) and control groups (15 people). The experimental group was taught religious teachings and Islamic ethics twice a week during 9 sessions of 90 minutes. The control group did not receive any training. Data were collected in the pre-test and post-test stages using the spiritual health questionnaires of Polotzin and Ellison (1983) and the general health of Goldberg (1963) and analyzed using the covariance analysis method with SPSS-26.
Results: The results showed that in the experimental group, the average spiritual health score increased from 41.33 in the pre-test stage to 65.28 in the post-test stage. Also, in the experimental group, the average mental health score increased from 30.12 in the pre-test stage to 47.47 in the post-test stage (P<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the findings, it can be concluded that the teaching of religious teachings and Islamic ethics has an effect on increasing the spiritual health and mental health of madrasa principals, and holding in-service courses in this field is necessary for school principals.
